How to Paint or Stain Wooden Garden Furniture Oldham County, KY

With careful planning, painting, or staining, wooden garden furniture can take less than a weekend.

Garden furniture is available in several materials – wrought iron, aluminum, and plastic – but wood is by far the most popular.
Whatever degree of opacity you choose – a finish that lets the grain of the wood shine through or an opaque finish in the color of your choice from over 3,500

And with expert advice to guide you, you will see that your task will be all the more simplified. Follow the steps below for the best results.

Surface Preparation

The first step in a garden furniture stain or paint project is to make sure the wood is completely dry and free from mold. Remember to check the bottom surfaces too.

If the old surface has mold stains, prepare it properly using a premium.
For small stains, you can use a solution consisting of a measure of bleach mixed with three measures of water (it is best to mix it outside or in a well-ventilated place).
Do not forget to rinse thoroughly and let your furniture dry before applying the stain.

If it is cold, place the furniture inside so that it dries faster; if the weather is mild, you can place it in a garage or other place sheltered from the rain.
Do not cover the furniture with a canvas or plastic.

Sanding

The next step is to sand the surfaces to be stained. Start by scrubbing the wood in the direction of the veins with coarse sandpaper, then switch to finer sandpaper until a smooth finish is obtained.

The best tool to use for this is an orbital hand sander if you have one.
If the old finish is in poor condition, you can remove it altogether to strip the wood using a quality wood stripper.

Priming?

If the painted or stained surface is still intact after sanding, you can skip the primer application step, as the current paint or stain layer will serve as a primer.

If you cover your furniture with a non-opaque finish, you should not use a primer at all, because the primer is often white, its color may appear through a translucent or transparent finish.

Apply a Paint or Stain

If you want to stain wooden garden furniture, choose a product that is powerful enough to protect the exterior from tough weather.
The exterior stain is designed to protect against the harshest weather conditions as well as UV rays.
Most paint brands offer a variety of colors and degrees of opacity, including.
You can also use latex paint with a very lustrous finish, which provides vibrant color and a shiny finish for a refined appearance.

Drying and Maintenance

Let your furniture dry in a clean, dust-free, and well-ventilated place. Do not allow it to dry outside to avoid deposits of dust or particles carried by wind or air on the still wet surface.

As soon as your furniture is dry, you can use it. Avoid placing it under the roof gutter or a tree branch.
Light occasional cleaning with dish detergent and lukewarm water will allow you to enjoy your garden furniture for years.
