In any given painting project, the issue of safety is going to be of some concern and certainly, it will be the case when you are painting the ceiling in your bathroom.
However, the good news is that there are things that you can do to make your painting project safer — and that is what we will be discussing here today.
Let’s have a look at some important tips for bathroom ceiling painting that will help make for an overall well painted bathroom ceiling.
1. Not Using Makeshift Scaffolding
Sometimes you might see a good scaffolding system in place that people are making use of to paint somewhere up high, like a ceiling or a high part of a wall that needs to really be painted over a long period of time.
You might see that and think to yourself, well I have a few bricks laying about the house and some scrap wood that I found down the street that one time — surely between the two things I can just make my own scaffolding.
This kind of thinking is quite dangerous and will put you at risk of falling and getting injured — and for most interior painting projects, the use of any sort of scaffolding is going to be a waste of time and resources due to how not portable they are.
It’s significantly faster and easier to use a portable ladder — but if you do feel you need to use some sort of scaffolding, it’s better to use a properly made one rather than a makeshift one from things you have laying about the house.
2. Verify The Floor Is Level And Uncluttered Before Putting Down A Ladder
Speaking of ladders, if you’re going to make use of a ladder for a large part of your painting project, it’s better if you make sure that the floor is good and level before you step up on it.
Of course, it’s going to be even better if you have someone standing next to the ladder to steady it so that you have absolutely no chance of having the ladder fall over while you are using it, but that’s not always feasible.
You should also make sure that there are no objects on the floor near to where you are putting down the ladder so that you may not inadvertently put the ladder atop one of these objects, making the ladder unsteady.
3. Remove Anything You Can From The Room
You’re also going to want to remove whatever large objects you may be able to move out of the room — this is because having things in the way is going to make moving about more difficult and thus less safe.
There are times when you just won’t be able to remove larger things from the room and if this is the case you’re just going to have to work with what you have but in general, if you can remove these things your entire painting project will be better off.
4. Use An Appropriate Sized Extending Handle
Lastly, remember that when you are making use of a paint roller and that paint roller has an extending (or telescoping) handle attached to it, it’s important that the extending part be made for a ceiling of your height and not one that is, for example, three or four times the height.
The longer the part of the telescoping handle that is still in the base that you are holding, the heavier it is and therefore the more difficult it is to manage moving around the room — thus making it a bit less safe to handle, pun not intended.
Make use of a telescoping handle made for the height of your ceiling and you’ll be a lot better off.
